Professor and AMT research group co-director Jussi Parikka is part of the Library’s Other Intelligence project funded by the Kone Foundation (Finland) and the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York. With Professor Shannon Mattern (The New School), Parikka is curating AI, ecology and infrastructure themed artworks from Finnish contemporary artists for the new Helsinki public library, Oodi.

The project relates to both Parikka and Mattern’s research on libraries, technology and creative practices and the public exhibition will be launched in January 2019. The project has already organized events in Helsinki discussing aspects of material media culture and technological infrastructures as well as the work of art practices in cultural institutions. The project also investigates  alternative forms of definition of AI from alien intelligence to artistic intelligence, ambient intelligence to architectural intelligence. The new Helsinki library has been recently featured in the Guardian, CNN, ArchDaily, and many other international publications.
