Welcome to the Mountbatten Papers Digitisation Project which will make available online for the first time papers of the late Louis, Earl Mountbatten of Burma, and Edwina, Countess Mountbatten of Burma, providing a fascinating insight into both their public and private lives.

This is a rolling programme, starting with diaries for both Lord and Lady Mountbatten.

This Diaries 1 page contains Lady Mountbatten's diaries, 1923-34.  For other diaries of Lady Mountbatten, go to Lady Mountbatten Diaries 2 for 1935-41; Lady Mountbatten Diaries 3 for 1943-6, 1949-50; and Lady Mountbatten Diaries 4 for 1951-60.

Go to Lord Mountbatten Diaries 1 for diaries, 1918, 1920, 1922-34; Lord Mountbatten Diaries 2 for 1935-42; Lord Mountbatten Diaries 3 for 1944, 1946, 1949-50; and Lord Mountbatten Diaries 4 for 1951-60.

Edwina was the elder of the two daughters of Wilfrid Ashley, Baron Mount Temple of Lee and his first wife, Amalia (Maudie), only child of Sir Ernest Cassel, financier and philanthropist. Edward VII, Edwina's grandfather's friend and client, was her godfather.
