Hi, I'm Thomas Vincent and I studied Biology within Centre for Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton.

It was very enjoyable and good preparation for work on my dissertation which I have been researching and writing up in my third year. I found this kind of research so rewarding.

I was quick to volunteer for an eight week summer studentship at the end of my second year of studies. I worked at the Chilworth Manor ecology meadow to examine the reflective properties of flower petals, especially the buttercup.

The project, organised by Dr Chris Jackson, involved collecting data in different ecological environments at various times of the day and analysing the findings.

The placements are designed to give a flavour of fieldwork in a chosen area of study. They help to decide on future careers and give valuable experience for CVs, which may help secure future employment.
