Early experience in presenting for Chemistry research fellow
Chemistry’s Dr Samuel Genheden has taken part in the 2014 Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences Early Career Research and Teaching Fellow Conference at the National Oceanography Centre (NOCS).
This was the conference of its kind for the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences and was organised by Fiona Hibbert, Russel Minns and Helen Lewis.
He is investigating how cholesterol affects the signalling within and between cells in the body. "If we better understand these biochemical mechanisms through computational chemistry, it will help us to devise improved methods of delivering drugs and treating disease," says Samuel who studied for his PhD at Lund University in his home country of Sweden. At Southampton he is working with Professor Jonathan Essex and the University's IRIDIS supercomputer.
The Conference also included talks by young researchers across Chemistry, Biological Sciences and Ocean and Earth Science. "Events such as these are an opportunity to celebrate the great work going on; share experiences and perspectives and learn from each other in terms of career development and prospects," says Dean Professor Stephen Hawkins.
