Open Access Week 22 - 28 October

Open Access (OA) Week 2018 is a time for celebrating the world’s open research. This year, OA week will be running from Monday 22 to Sunday 28 October. The University Library will be tweeting from the @UniSotonLibrary Twitter account using the hashtags: #OAWeek2018, #OAWeek, and #OpenAccessWeek. On Thursday 25 October many UK libraries will be tweeting open theses stored in their institutional repositories using the hashtag #ThesisThursday.

This OA week we aim to help you discover and make the most of open research.

If you are a Southampton Alumnus and would like to tweet your own thesis, please get in touch:

Discover Open Access

Developed by our School of Electronics and Computer Science, ePrints is software to make an institutional repository possible. EPrints is now used widely by many institutions around the world, as well as subject repositories for making articles green OAOur ePrints repository is a great resource which you could take some time to explore this OA Week and beyond.

Open Access Buttons – finding OA articles

OA button and Unpaywall provide plugins for most browsers which help you find free to read versions with a single click from the publisher’s page. You can also batch search DOIs using Unpaywall and they will email you a list of links. Most importantly, these services are free and legal. We suggest using the OA button or Unpaywall to help inform your decision to request an interlibrary loan, or before buying access to an article.

Next week we’ll be sharing some tips on getting your research published, and how to promote your published pieces, so stay tuned!
