Southampton University Formula Student Team (SUFST) at Silverstone
Thursday 9th July was a very busy day for SUFST as the annual Formula, Student UK Competition got underway, at Silverstone Circuit.
With the car arriving as soon as the gates to the track opened at 7:30, the team started working on getting the car ready for scrutineering. The team however experienced some problem with the dynamic toe on the rear wheels and the brake fittings were leaking fluid. Work began very quickly on reducing the amount of dynamic toe.
Eventually the work was completed within their brand new pit garage, surrounded by professional-looking pit boards environment. The 3 presentation teams made their final preparations for Friday's static events and added the finishing touches to the business presentation PowerPoint.
Friday meant another early start for most of the team: Once the team arrived at Silverstone, they carried on with their list of jobs from the previous evening, fuelled by coffee and energy drinks. These included putting in the Hire wall, adding in the gear, clutch and throttle cables and calibrating the throttle peddle position.
They then wheeled the car into the welding bay where new rear toe link tabs were welded onto the chassis and an improved shifter cable mount was installed in the car. The first day of Formula Student UK where the paddock is open to the public coincided with the team’s scheduled slots for the Design, Business and Cost presentations. They had some good responses for their work and some great feedback to carry through to next year. The work for #FS2016 begins now!
