University’s Formula Student Team unveil this year’s vehicle
Last week, (Tuesday 28 February) the University’s Formula Student team (SUFST) presented the final design of this year’s car at their launch event on Highfield Campus.
Produced by the team’s Head of Drivetrain and Technical Director, Seb Steele , who studies Mechanical Engineering / Computational Engineering and Design, and Tesvin John, who studies Aeronautics and Astronautics / Aerodynamics, the launch video of the new vehicle went on to reach five thousand views in less than a day.
Formula Student is a national competition in which student teams design and build a single seat racing car, and compete against other universities at the world-famous Silverstone Circuit. The annual event, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and supported by industry partners, takes place in July.
In addition to unveiling the design of the latest car, named Stag 4, the team also presented footage from testing sessions and discussed the current stage of manufacturing. A number of bespoke Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machined components were also on display at the event.
Team leader Matthew Mustard, who studies Mechanical Engineering / Automotive, said:
"The design of Stag 4 was focused on reliability and ease of manufacture. We are confident that these two aspects of design will enable us to produce a more prepared and capable car when it comes to competition this season."
The team was pleased with the success of the launch event, and would like to thank everyone who attended.
