Researchers from the University of Southampton have launched Africa’s first blast injury research network to help improve lives in nations affected by conflict.

The Sub-Saharan Blast Injury Research Network brings together scientists, clinicians and academics to address issues ranging from clearance and protection through to social impact.

Research Fellow Dr Jack Denny, from the School of Engineering, is collaborating with the Faculty of Medicine’s Dr Rebecca Brown in the project as it seeks to improve the effectiveness of research into injuries caused by legacy landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW).

The Network hosted its first Blast Injury Workshop in South Africa on Wednesday in partnership with the University of Cape Town’s Blast Impact and Survivability Research Unit.
