The Jeddah study was fascinating and included issues of social and environmental health, major infrastructure development (e.g. the need for and impacts of major flood channels), disaster management at the municipal level, the challenge of developing more sustainable solutions including adapting design standards whilst understanding the impacts of rapid population growth through development. Then add the pressure of the influx of millions during the Hajj, Jeddah being the gateway to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
We will consider:
- Data collection and the environmental and social impact assessment;
- Formalising the strategy for developing the Master Plan;
- Refinement of the Plan and progress with implementation.
Speakers: Paul Hillman, Bram Miller and Greg Irvine, Ramboll UK
