China Conversion Event Trip
This March Song Utz from the Faculty Partnerships Office and Director of Operations Andy Malicki joined the university-level recruitment effort led by Vice President Professor Alex Neill to meet with University of Southampton offer-holders in China. The trip also provided a valuable opportunity to meet with partner universities, international schools, Southampton alumni students and recruitment agents.
Official meetings with Chinese offer holders were held in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Shanghai. The Vice President began by giving an introduction to Southampton and the importance of China in our international strategy. Southampton alumni then spoke about their lives and careers, and how they benefitted from studying at Southampton. During the visits, delegates met with hundreds of offer holders, answering their questions about various aspects of studying in Southampton. Their invigorating discussions ranged from practical suggestions to accommodations, transports and language courses, to reasons for choosing Southampton and the best ways of making use of Southampton's resources.
While in China, delegates also had a chance to meet with top Chinese universities to discuss new programmes and collaborations. Representatives from Faculty of Business and Law, Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Social, Human, and Mathematical Sciences also met with selected student recruitment agencies to discuss ways to encourage the best Chinese students to study in Southampton.
