A summary of the latest news and intelligence from around the Faculty.

Congratulations to programme lead for podiatry Ivan Bristow who received an award from industry in recognition of his work and research into the early recognition of melanoma on the foot.  Ivan's work has subsequently been published and translated into other languages.

As part of the award, Ivan received a dermatoscope (a hand held device for imaging pigmented lesions in the skin) worth over a £1000.

The Experts by Experience Blog'  has been launched to promote discussion on all aspects of service user/carer involvement in healthcare education. The blog is about the challenge of increasing patient, service user, carer, expert by experience involvement in the education of healthcare professionals.  The blog's owner, Trevor Kettle, is actively inviting guest blog posts.  Please e-mail Trevor at tjk1@soton.ac.uk.

Congratulations to Dr Katherine Hunt who has secured an award from the Burdett Trust to conduct a study to promote compassion and dignity in care for older people in hospital.

The project entitled "My Life in Hospital: delivering dignity by engaging patients and staff in creative reflections" is a joint venture between Winchester School of Art and University Hospitals Southampton and will see art students will work with older people to create photos and supporting narratives of their world in hospital.

We're pleased to report that the Faculty of Health Sciences campus in Portsmouth has now moved from the Rodney Road Education centre to the QuAD centre on the Queen Alexandra Hospital site. This move has successfully taken place after many months of negotiation with the Trust and refurbishments to the QuAD building so that the facility has been brought up to a high standard for staff and students.

Claire Foster and the Macmillan Survivorship Research Group team are holding a coffee morning on Friday 27 September from 10-12pm in the reception of Building 67 as part of Macmillan's Biggest Coffee Morning.  There will be cakes and biscuits on sale for £1 each.  Please join them and bring a drink with you!
