The new Autumn season is opened with Dr Hye-Won Jo making her debut at Turner Sims, performing works by Haydn, Beethoven and Brahms as part of her UK tour.

Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) Sonata Hob, XVI: 52 in Eb major.

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) Sonata Op.53 in C major, Waldstein.

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) Sonata Op.5 in F major.

 

Biography

Hye-Won Jo from Korea, appointed in her twenties for an Assistant Professor position, has joined the Faculty of Music at Sultan Idris University, which invited her to take become the chair of the performance program. She has been recognised internationally by national celebrities through her work on the effort known as: Dr Hye-Won Jo's Cultural & Educational Diplomacy Project. As part of her project, the first sponsored Piano and Recital Master Class Tour Series was successfully completed in Southeast Asia (Singapore, Indonesia & Malaysia) last year, receiving high praises in reports by many news organisations. This year she is scheduled to continue the tour series in Europe (U.K., Ireland, and Denmark), Taiwan, and next year in Japan. She has been invited to give her master class as a guest professor by the University of Southampton U.K. Campus, University of Leeds, U.K., University of York, U.L., Royal Irish Academy of Music, Ireland, Royal Academy of Music, Denmark, Shih Chien University Tapei Campus, and Tainan National University of the Arts, Taiwan. Also she was invited to give her recital at the Korean Ambassador's residence to celebrate the ASEAN- Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit 2014 and the recital was praised by the diplomatic corps.

Jo is a twenty-nine time prize winner of national and international competitions, and was awarded a piano for the trophy as the Grand Prize winner of the Kyunhyang Music Competition, and she was invited to give a recital at Carnegie Hall in New York. She was also invited to appear on the EBS TV station of Korea. Her recital in Singapore was published by Nanyang Technological University. Her performance achievements, with a repertoire consisting of a huge selection of pieces from every era of the standard literature, have already been praised by the world famous pianist Peter Frankl at Yale University. As a scholar, her research projects have been presented at international conferences, her articles have been published, and the publication of her book funded by a research grant is currently in progress. During her college years, she was appointed to publish a book of strategies to improve scholastic abilities. Jo achieved the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and literature with a minor in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, U.S.A., to which she was admitted as a recipient of a full scholarship and Graduate Teaching Assistantship. Being a doctoral graduate in her twenties, she finished all of the requirements in the shortest time of any graduate. Achieving high distinction, she received the Master of Music degree from Indiana University at Bloomington, U.S.A., in which she studied with the awarded scholarship. She appeared in the Indiana newspaper in recognition of her recital. As the highest ranked graduate of her class, she earned the Bachelor of Music degree with the highest honours from Seoul National University.
