This November, join a journey of discovery with a series of interactive events and activities for all to enjoy. The University of Southampton’s annual opportunity to get hands on with arts and humanities-themed activities, crafts and events is taking place in the city centre.
Running from Thursday 6 to Saturday 15 November , Southampton Arts and Humanities Festival has been a key event in the city’s cultural calendar since 2014.
Events as part of the festival include:
- An online workshop on Finding Your Fictional Voice, led by Associate Professor of Creative Writing Toby Litt;
- A performance by Jazz Sabbath , a trio led by Adam Wakeman who played in Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band, that plays new jazz arrangements of Black Sabbath songs;
- A guided heritage walking tour through Mansbridge;
- Enter the Cabinet of Curiosities at Hartley Library;
- And much more .
Each year the festival presents a vibrant programme, which includes the ever-popular Arts and Humanities Day .
Arts and Humanities Day
The family-friendly Arts and Humanities Day, on Saturday 8 November , will be held across venues in the Southampton Cultural Quarter.
More than 50 activities will be held predominately at the Sir James Matthews Building with an expanded programme featuring activities from University's branch of the ESRC Festival of Social Science and additional activities at the John Hansard Gallery, Southampton Central Library and SeaCity Museum.
From bringing bones to life, to adventuring through immersive virtual reality rhythms, and taking a trip around the world with Jane Austen, join researchers, students, artists and local community groups for a free day out packed with activities and events, suitable for all ages.

This event is part of Being Human Festival , the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place from 6 to 15 November 2025. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
