Chair in Emerging Technologies Susan Gourvenec on the ‘Critical Role’ of academia along with government and industry in meeting the challenges facing the Maritime Sector

The January 2020 Edition of the Journal of the Foundation for Science and Technology includes the reports from last year’s debate “Delivering the Government's Maritime 2050 Strategy” hosted at the Royal Society.
Professor Susan Gourvenec talked to “The vision for science and technology” alongside fellow panellists Roger Hargreaves OBE, Director of Maritime, Department for Transport, Sarah Kenny, Chief Executive of BMT and Vice Chair, Maritime UK, Professor Ed Hill OBE, Executive Director, National Oceanography Centre and Liz English, Group Development Manager, Associated British Ports. The debate was Chaired by the Earl of Selborne GBE FRS, Vice-President, The Foundation for Science and Technology.
Susan noted the critical role of academia along with government and industry in meeting the challenges facing our maritime sector.
An invited audience of 100 + guests from parliament, government departments and senior managers from the business, NGO and research communities were also part of the robust debate of the evening.
