Classical Art and Archaeology

In this 6-week course, you will explore the art and archaeology of the ancient Greek, Etruscan and Roman civilisations. The course will cover developments in ancient sculpture, architecture, pottery, wall paintings and other art forms alongside their social, economic and political contexts, from the earliest cultures in the Aegean through to the end of the Roman Empire.  In addition it will examine the materials and techniques used by ancient artists, interspersed with discussions of current issues in the scientific analysis and conservation of artworks and archaeological sites (Pompeii, for example).
