Research news from Medicine at Southampton in New Boundaries magazine

Published: 4 June 2013

The latest edition of Medicine New Boundaries, is now available. This issue highlights how research in Medicine at Southampton is changing not only the treatment of disease, but also the decisions of global partners in government and industry.

In this issue there is news on how cancer treatments researched and developed at the University of Southampton that use the immune system are revolutionising treatment of the disease. We look at how scientists are translating lab discoveries directly into new treatments for asthma patients. An innovative adolescent health literacy programme is teaching local teenagers how they can reduce their family's chronic disease risk, as well as assisting the global effort to combat the diseases associated with modern lifestyles. And we report on how concerns raised by Southampton researchers more than a decade ago about the links between the over-prescription of antibiotics and drug-resistance are now starting to influence doctors and patients.
