Orpheus at the Opera House

Published: 7 July 2008

On Sunday 6 July, four Southampton Music graduands--Lucy Bazley, Helen Cope, Julie Finklaire, and Mike Robertson--joined the apprentices of the Orpheus Centre in their annual fund-raising performance at the Royal Opera House's Linbury Studio.

Based in Godstone, Surrey, the Orpheus Centre is an innovative performing arts college for disabled adults, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. Earlier in the year, the foursome--along with other final year students taking the unit in Community Music and Music Therapy--had undertaken a week-long placement at the Centre, drawing praise from its founder, Richard Stilgoe, for their work. At the Royal Opera House event, all four graduands were members of the creative team for the first half of the show, and Julie, Lucy and Helen played in the orchestra for the second half.
