New partnership, new pianos

Published: 18 November 2014

The Music department at Southampton has just overhauled its provision of pianos through a new partnership with Duet. The new instruments include outstanding grand pianos by Fazioli and Bechstein.

Southampton's Head of Keyboard Studies, Professor David Owen Norris, chose the new pianos to complement the department's excellent collection of historic and reproduction keyboard instruments, ensuring that Southampton students have a broad range of instruments for performance and study.

Duet is the leading organisation leasing and servicing musical instruments for individual musicians, schools and universities. Jonathan Thorne, Duet’s chief executive, said “I am delighted to have the opportunity of working with another world class institution. Southampton University is the envy of the international community for its research achievements and fresh approach to music study, and it is an absolute centre of excellence in music creativity. The Music department selected an exciting array of pianos from Fazioli and Bechstein ensuring that inimitable, rich European tone."
