Business Ethics And Environment Students

The Business Ethics and Environment Students (BEES) programme is transforming business practice in Southampton and providing students the skills to embed sustainability in a business context.

BEES students work with local businesses, auditing their ethical and environmental practice and then working with them for positive change.

The programme aims to change the nature of business practise throughout Southampton, whilst developing sustainability knowledge in students, staff, and the wider community. Topic addressed include ethical practices such as living wage, investment and supply chain management, as well as resource consumption, carbon emissions and transport.

Get involved

The BEES programme equips graduates with skills to help build a more sustainable future, and will be an invaluable experience for all those involved. The programme is scheduled to begin in October 2013, so students, staff and local businesses should watch this space for more news on how you can get involved!

How does it work?

Students and staff will assist Southampton businesses to audit their sustainability practices and make plans for how they can change their practises in the future. The programme focuses on a broad range of issues in the hope that it will avoid the limited appeal associated with typically 'green' projects.

Winning the bid

The programme is funded by through the National Union of Students' Green Fund to deliver transformative, student-led sustainability projects across England. Having beaten competition from over 100 other student unions, it was a fantastic achievement for both the University and the Students' Union to win the £175,000 funding to champion the programme.
