Stephen J Hawkins works in the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences, he is Professor of Natural Sciences within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton.

  • Rocky shore community ecology
  • Long-term change in relation to climate using rocky-shore indicators 
  • Predator-prey interactions
  • Behavioural ecology of intertidal grazers
  • Ecology and design of sea defences 
  • Taxonomy and phylogeography of North East Atlantic and Mediterranean Patellids (Limpets), Cirripedes (Barnacles) and Trochids (Gastropods) 
  • Maintaining long-term datasets
  • Restoration of degraded coastal ecosystems, recovery of polluted shores and estuaries
  • Shellfisheries, impacts of scallop dredging on the benthos
