Event details

A 3D MHD model of a neutron star crust

The outer layers of a neutron star are compressed into a solid ionic lattice, through which strong electric currents flow and generate tremendous magnetic fields. This magnetic field plays a central role in all the observable phenomena in pulsars, including glitches, flares, spindown, and surface temperature anomalies. This talk will present recent analytical and numerical results concerning the magneto-hydrodynamics of the crust, and the implications for neutron star observations.
