Title: Self-force calculations with Numerical Relativity methods

Abstract: Gravitational self-force calculations will be essential for the upcoming LISA space mission to predict gravitational-wave signals from extreme mass-ratio inspirals (EMRIs). I present progress performing these calculations using methods developed for numerical relativity simulations. This is possible by formulating the m-mode self-force problem as elliptic PDEs and solving them with the high-performance elliptic solver typically used to solve the Einstein constraint equations for binary black hole initial data. I show how this approach achieves high accuracy for scalar self-force in Kerr spacetime with spectral discontinuous Galerkin methods, adaptive mesh refinement, and an iterative multigrid-Schwarz preconditioned linear solver, and I outline work that is underway to extend these methods to the gravitational self-force problem.
