International Conference of Science Editors: Rio August 27-30 2000

Brazilian and international entitites join to organize the Tenth
International Conference of Science Editors -- IFSE-Rio -- --, to be held on August 27-30, 2000, in the
city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Organized every two years, the Conference is an event of the International
Federation of Science Editors (IFSE), and will be held in Brazil for the
first time. Aiming at offer an opportunity for scientific editors of the
country, as well as of Latin America, to exchange their experiences with
colleagues from around the world, the Organizing Institutions are
assembling all efforts to offer an unprecedented forum for the discussion
of current issues of scientific publishing and communication.

Besides IFSE, the Organizing Institutions include BIREME, ABEC e ABC.
BIREME - Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences
Information is a center of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO),
the World Health Organization (WHO) office for the Americas, responsible
for the technical cooperation in the region on health sciences
information. ABEC - Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors aims to
increase and improve the publication of Brazilian scientific journals, and
to contribute to the advancement of the scientific communication in the
country. The ABC - Brazilian Academy of Science mission is to promote the
progress and the quality of science in Brazil.

The Organizing Institutions expect that IFSE-Rio will make possible a
representative attendance of Brazilian editors, librarians, information
specialists, and researchers, strengthening cooperation to improve
international scientific communication.
