costs of publishing

According to "Economic Costs of Toll Access" by Andrew Odlyzko, in Open
Access: Key Strategic, Technical and Ecinomic Aspects, edited by Neil
Jacobs (2006) the cost of publishing is about 1% of the total cost of
research. My quick and dirty estimation for astronomy agrees with this.
