The ACOHIR project

Accurate Colour high Resolution Recording and Reproduction of 3D objects for electronic publishing and the consumer market.

The project developed tools to acquire images from 3D objects in museums and software to view them. As in Quicktime VR (QTVR) many views of the object are taken from different angles, then the viewer software allows seamless viewing. However ACOHIR software made much  higher resolution images and more accurate colour.Later software from ENST could make real 3D models from them too. Special hardware to capture the images was also developed.

ACOHIR produced a demonstration using objects from museums in Greece, furniture and pottery from Spain for example.
Here is a demonstration using an object from the Archaeology dept. in Southampton. Also a video of the scanner in use (you need Real Player)
