PHYS2006: Waves in One-dimensional Crystals
Here we have two different masses (shown in red and blue), alternating
along the line. The image shows the displacements in an optical mode
with wavevector k = Pi/6a. In optical modes, neighbouring
masses tend to be displaced out of phase with each other.
