Oscar goes to All-Energy with the TechX accelerator
Earlier this year, Enterprise Fellow and ex-IROE PhD Oscar Festa joined the TechX startup accelerator to support the development of Xmoor, a University of Southampton spin-out.
Run by the Scottish-based Net Zero Technology Centre, the programme offers three months of funding and intensive business training for startups focused on the transition to net zero.TechX Accelerator. As part of the programme's in-person delivery, Oscar travelled to Glasgow in early May for two days of intensive training.
Hosted at Barclays Eagle Labs and the Royal Bank of Scotland Accelerator, the cohort covered a range of practical business topics. Sessions focused on messaging and presenting styles, managing cash flow, and building digital influence. The second training day also involved a ‘cash flow competition’ – the cohort was divided into 4 teams, and each team was asked to manage the cash flow and finance of an imaginary business. All 4 teams went bust before they could generate profit!
Following the training workshops, the cohort attended the All-Energy conference at the Scottish Event Campus on the 13th and 14th of May, where each TechX startup was given an exhibitor stand. On the first day, TechX also hosted a "Pitch Battle" held at the Innovation Theatre. During this event, Oscar delivered a three-minute pitch to industry professionals, outlining Xmoor's underlying technology, the core problem it solves, and the spin-out's progress to date - this led to fruitful conversations between Oscar and stakeholders throughout the floating offshore wind value chain.
