Language Testing Forum 2025 at Southampton marks key milestones
The Language Testing Forum (LTF) 2025 took place from November 21 to 23 at the University of Southampton’s Highfield Campus, hosted by the Language Assessment and Testing Unit (LATU) within the Department of Languages, Cultures & Linguistics. This year’s event celebrated two significant milestones: the 45th anniversary of LTF and the 10th anniversary of the UK Association for Language Testing and Assessment (UKALTA).
The conference theme, “Interdisciplinary Trends and Challenges in Language Assessment,” reflected the growing need for cross-disciplinary approaches in addressing technological, ethical, and societal issues in language testing. Sessions explored topics such as generative AI in assessment, multilingualism, equity and inclusion, and language testing for specific professional contexts, including healthcare and law.
The three-day event brought together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from across the UK and beyond, fostering dialogue on emerging trends and practical challenges in language testing. By addressing interdisciplinary methodologies and the interplay between language policy and assessment, LTF 2025 continued its tradition of advancing professional standards and shaping the future of language assessment.
