Main Conference Theme
Learning, ethics, and critical thinking in times of digital technologies and AI The rapid expansion of digital technologies, particularly AI-based tools, has profoundly transformed language teaching and learning contexts. These developments challenge traditional notions of authorship, knowledge production, and assessment, prompting the academic community to reconsider the ethical and pedagogical principles underpinning research and teaching practices.
Within the field of Portuguese language education, the growing presence of digital technologies and AI raises fundamental questions: how do we learn and teach in times of AI? What ethical and critical implications emerge from the use of technologies that simultaneously expand and constrain learning processes? This conference seeks to provide a space for critical reflection and dialogue on the intersections between learning, ethics, and critical thinking in the age of AI. We welcome contributions that present empirical research, pedagogical experiences, and theoretical perspectives, fostering an informed and critical understanding of the role of digital technologies in Portuguese language education.
Themes and approaches include:
- Technological mediation of learning: how to deal with students who resort to digital and AI tools in learning processes?
- Authorship and originality: rethinking student authorship in the age of AI
- Assessment and feedback: challenges and implications of new modes of assessment practices in times of AI
- Ethics and critical awareness: responsible and reflective integration of digital technologies in language education
- Critical thinking and digital and/or AI literacy: pedagogical practices that promote ethical, reflective, and creative uses of technology
- Reading and media: transformations in reading practices and interpretation in digital environments
- Reflections on learning: what it means to learn and to teach in times of digital technologies and AI
- The arts and AI: integrating the arts (music, visual arts, literature, etc.) alongside AI in the classroom and exploring their role as a counterbalance to these technologies. Researchers, educators, and postgraduate students are invited to submit proposals that contribute to this interdisciplinary debate, exploring the relationships between technology, ethics, and learning in Portuguese language education.
Contributions addressing other relevant themes are also encouraged.
