Ever wanted to know how local government works in practice, and how you can engage as a researcher? This session will cover which bits of local government do what, who makes the decisions, and how.

Mike Harris is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton working in the Civic University Directorate. He has worked with the University to refine and deliver the Civic University Strategic Plan. He has had a long career in Local Government, with a variety of senior roles, including Chief Executive of Southampton City Council. He’s experienced first-hand political changes at local and national levels, and been in the midst of previous devolution dialogue, whilst seeking to ensure sound policy and strategy are developed to positively impact residents.
