Covid-19 – Information for our customers.

The Sport & Wellbeing team are closely monitoring the Coronavirus situation via the University of Southampton and Government guidelines.

Since the news; the Sport & Wellbeing team have endeavoured to do our bit to reduce the spread of the virus. You will have noticed the extra antibacterial gels located within various parts of our facilities; we have actively ensured that all turnstiles host antibacterial gel and would insist that all our customers use these upon entrance and exit. The team are also actively ensuring our facilities and equipment are cleaned at various points throughout the day, along with the housekeeping team focusing towards the touchpoints within our facilities.

We have been made aware that there have been a number of calls to Swim England about whether it is safe to still go swimming. The Pool Water Treatment and Advisory Group (PWTAG) has been in contact with Public Health England regarding novel coronavirus. A spokesperson for PWTAG said: “Public health opinion is that it is generally safe to go swimming at this time. “Water and the chlorine within swimming pools will help to kill the virus. “However, visitors to swimming pools are reminded to shower before using the pool, to shower on leaving the pool and to follow the necessary hygiene precautions when visiting public places to help reduce the risk of infection.”

We do ask that those customers that use our facilities to be extra cautious and ensure the following points to reduce the spread are completed:

• Frequent hand washing, as well as usage of our antibacterial gels
• Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and then disposing of this tissue in the available bins
• Ensuring that any equipment used is wiped and cleaned after usage particularly within our unmanned gyms such as Connaught, Glen Eyre and the Team Southampton Gyms.
• Please report to a team member if any of our facilities or equipment may require extra cleaning
• To follow the Government guidelines if you are a returning traveller
• Please report to us if you have used our facilities and recently been informed via a medical expert if you now have the virus
• At present we have no plans to close any of our facilities and plan to operate as normal. As guidelines change, we will of course look to adjust the operations of our facilities when and if appropriate.
