Need help?

During your time at the University, you may encounter times when you need help and support.

The Student Hub

The Student Hub is your main point of contact for support at Southampton and for any questions you may have. Whether you need help with wellbeing, disability, fees, finance, accommodation or course administration, we’re here to help you 24/7.

• Chat to an advisor now using the online chat service
• Call us on 02380599599
• Or email studenthub@soton.ac.uk

You can also come and visit us in-person. For opening times and locations, click here.

When visiting us, please join The Student Hub digital queue. You can check your position and estimated wait time on your phone, and you’ll receive an alert when it’s your turn, so you can wait in The Student Hub or elsewhere on campus.

In an emergency

If there is an immediate risk to life, such as a medical emergency or if a crime is ongoing, always call 999 for immediate help. You can make a report online or call the police on 101 in non-emergency situations.

When you need medical advice, but it is not a 999 emergency, get help from NHS 111 online or call 111. When you phone 111, your call is handled by an advisor who can guide you on what treatment you need. If the advisor believes that you need an ambulance, they will arrange one for you. NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from both landlines and mobile phones.

24/7 wellbeing support

We are available 24/7 to provide all students with wellbeing support. Our wellbeing advisors are based in The Student Hub on Highfield Campus and can travel to meet students on other campuses or in halls when requested. There is a wide range of further support available to you, which we will help you explore and access where appropriate. Contact The Student Hub via email, phone or online chat to speak to the team.

Student safety

For support and advice on how to keep safe whilst at University, you can visit our safety site for official and reliable information from the Police and other organisations.

It has tips on identifying and reporting scams targeting students, and how to report incidents of crime and harassment. If something doesn't feel right, you can speak to The Student Hub or use our Report and Support platform.

Academic support

The University offers a number of ways to support students in their academic life:

Personal Academic Tutor and Senior Tutor

One of the most important people you will meet while you are a student is your Personal Academic Tutor who will be allocated to you on your arrival at the University and who is normally a member of academic staff in your own or a closely related subject area. Your Personal Academic Tutor will offer one-to-one support and advice throughout your time at university and will support you in your studies.

Academic appeals and complaints

If you need to make a complaint or an academic appeal, please see the guidance provided by the Academic Appeals and Student Complaints page .

The SUSU Advice Centre

The Advice Centre offers free, confidential and independent help to students. To find out more information and book an appointment, please call +44(0)23 8059 2085 or email advice@susu.org

Student discipline

If you wish to make an allegation of misconduct, or you are the subject of an allegation, please refer to the discipline webpages for information on the procedures and support that the University has in place.
