A response to the Department of Health and Social Care's consultation to extend medicines responsibilities for allied health professions

Executive Summary

The Department of Health and Social Care put out a consultation for views on extending medicines responsibilities for paramedics, physiotherapists, operating department practitioners and diagnostic radiographers.

In this response, Dr. Natasha Campling specifically addresses the extension of responsibilities for paramedics. The submission draws on findings from Dr. Campling's ParAid Study, a mixed-methods evaluation of paramedic-delivered end-of-life (EoL) care funded by Marie Curie. In this document, Dr. Campling outlines the specific medicines that she thinks paramedics should be able to administer, including:

Dr. Campling also provides recommendations on how paramedic training could be improved to increase knowledge of end of life care management.
