Working together with the Bennett Institute for Public Policy, University of Cambridge, and the Nuffield Foundation, the Web Science Institute (WSI) has hosted the first of four workshops aimed at fostering discussion and generating new research ideas on how to steer the rapid design and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to deliver just outcomes.

Working together with the Bennett Institute for Public Policy , University of Cambridge, and the Nuffield Foundation, the Web Science Institute (WSI) has hosted the first of four workshops aimed at fostering discussion and generating new research ideas on how to steer the rapid design and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to deliver just outcomes.

What role could artificial intelligence play in administrative justice?

The first workshop saw the WSI joined by leading voices from industry and academia across disciplines to explore how artificial intelligence could be used in administrative justice.

Each year, the State and public bodies in the UK make millions of decisions about people’s entitlements to welfare benefits, healthcare, housing, and education. A broad conception of administrative justice includes this decision-making. The workshop explored how AI could help improve delivery of administrative justice, including looking at where the possible risks are and how to manage them.

Workshop series

The following three workshops will explore the use of AI in...

  • Market Failures
  • Civic AI for Place-based Solutions
  • AI for Public Health

The workshop series has been commissioned by the Nuffield Foundation in collaboration with the Ada Lovelace Institute, and are led by Professor Diane Coyle at the Bennett Institute for Public Policy and Professor Wendy Hall, director of the WSI.
