Director of new Centre for Cancer Immunology announced

We are delighted to announce that Professor Tim Elliott has been appointed as the Director of Southampton’s new Centre for Cancer Immunology.

Professor Elliott, who holds the Chair of Experimental Oncology in the Cancer Sciences Academic Unit at Southampton, will lead the next phase of the creation of the country’s first centre dedicated to the development of new approaches to immunotherapy to treat cancer.

Professor Iain Cameron, Dean of Medicine, says: Professor Elliott is an internationally renowned scientist in the field of cancer immunology and we are delighted that he will be leading this ground-breaking project for the University.

Hope for children with neuroblastoma

Sadly, more than 10 children are diagnosed with cancer in the UK every day, with one of the most common childhood cancers being neuroblastoma; a childhood cancer that originates from developing nerve cells. Major contribution to our fundraising campaign from the The Wolfson Foundation

The University has taken another significant step to help realise its goal of building a new world-leading research centre in cancer immunology and immunotherapy. A £480,000 gift, to build immunomonitoring laboratories in the new Centre, has been given by the Wolfson Foundation in recognition of the University’s essential role in translating the work of researchers in the laboratory into direct treatments for people with cancer.
