Spacecrafts decide what to do next in the Asteroid Belt
This Centre brings together experts from various areas in response to industry needs that are multi-disciplinary. Expertise is pooled across faculties: Faculty of Engineering and the Environment, Faculty of Physical and Applied Sciences, Institute Life Sciences and the National Oceanography Centre Southampton. The Centre also aims to serve as a source of professional information and news around the world in the area of autonomous system technologies.
Our major projects in autonomous systems range from design principles and optimisation through hardware, software system integration and project management.
Our academic staff are internationally recognised researchers in their respective areas ranging from biologically inspired systems through computer science to engineering design.
The Centre also highlights the unique facilities available at Southampton for autonomous vehicle design in one place through the range of facilities that is unique in the UK in academic institutions. Our centre covers all essential areas of knowledge that are needed to construct autonomous systems and this makes us a unique centre in the UK.
We aim to report about our internal news, our project successes, about significant developments in the world, point to important conferences, report on developments in standards and inform about our work on national and international committees.
