Medicine is a vibrant and supportive environment offering a variety of opportunities to postdoctoral staff and early career researchers.
In addition to a first-rate academic environment supported by world-class facilities. numerous additional opportunities for postdoctoral staff exist, including:
CareerTrack Fellowships
These fellowships offer awards to top quality postdoctoral scientists to foster their careers in academia. The award provides two years' full salary funding and is obtained through an annual competition. CareerTrack fellows may subsequently apply for Faculty pump-priming funding through the Research Management Committee.
Conference Attendance Funds
This fund is designed to assist eligible Medicine staff and postgraduate research students to attend conferences in the UK or overseas.
Transferrable Skills Programme
This programme of events and seminars offer postdocs and other members of Medicine the opportunity to learn and develop a range of transferable skills and to increase their awareness of potential career pathways inside and outside of academia.
Career development and advice
Many different opportunities exist for postdoctoral researchers, both inside and outside academia and so we provide a range of resources to assist career development.
Mentoring
Our aim is to provide all research staff with access to a mentor, who will act as an independent source of career advice and support.
Annual conference
The Faculty of Medicine Research Conference takes place annually and is a two-day conference showcasing the excellence of the science being performed within Medicine. Highlights include presentations from postdocs at all levels, oral and poster presentation prizes, research prizes for the best publications and high profile guest lecturers.
Many of these opportunities are offered in conjunction with the Postdoctoral Association (PDA), a highly active group consisting academic and postdoctoral members. Its remit is to support postdoctoral staff within Medicine
