Professor Vicky Wright is the Director of University Language Strategy in Modern Languages at the University of Southampton.

Teacher of French and German in secondary schools for a number of years before moving to EFL and teaching in a number of countries around the world. Taught and co-ordinated English for Academic Purposes on University of Southampton in-sessional and pre-sessional courses and became particularly interested in the development and use of self-access language learning materials. Is responsible for the design and development of the School’s Resource Centres, and is now Director of the Language Centre.

Vicky is also the Senior Academic Coordinator for Strategy for the UK Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies.

Research interests

Main interests lie in the area of learner autonomy, resource-based learning - particularly as it relates to curriculum design and the use of new technologies for language learning. Vicky manages several externally-funded projects in this area, including the CIEL project (FDTL).

Article

Co-ordinator and teacher of the in-sessional Qualifying Course in EAP and for Stage 4 of the English Language degree programme. Teaching commitments also include contributions to the Linguistics undergraduate programme, the M.A. in Applied Linguistics and teacher education courses.
