Our academic staff members specialise in musicology, composition, music technology and performance studies. Music also hosts research fellows working on specific group or individual projects.
For some units, we employ specialist teaching staff who are active practitioners in their professional fields.
Performance teaching is led by Heads of Studies for each instrument group or styles. Heads of Studies conduct fortnightly workshops with their groups and oversee students' individual lessons with our team of instrumental and vocal teachers. The administration team looks after admissions, organises lunchtime concerts and manages room bookings, among many other tasks; see the contact details page for help in directing any enquiries.
Music is part of Humanities, which has a strong interdisciplinary ethos: staff members in English, History and Philosophy have interests and expertise in music, and are available to supervise or co-supervise students' work. We also support collaborations outside the Faculty of Humanities, with colleagues in Electronics and Computer Science, the School of Engineering Sciences and the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research.
