Current research
Dr Shi’s research interests focus on the development and application of signal processing and machine learning approaches for the manipulation of sound waves. More specifically, he has been researching in the fields of active noise control and parametric acoustic array. These two topics can be brought together under the broader human-centred target to create a favourable sound environment. Both the studies of active noise control and parametric acoustic array involve series of ingenious designs of acoustics, circuits, algorithms, systems and prototypes.

Teaching
Dr Shi is interested in instructing both undergraduate and postgraduate modules. Some of the modules he had taught included Signals and Systems, Acoustic Signal Processing, and Intelligent and Interactive Audio Systems. Driven by a passion for education, he looks forward to the opportunity to teach modules such as Signal Processing and Active Control of Sound and Vibration at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR).
Biography
Chuang Shi graduated from Beijing Jiaotong University in 2005 with a BEng in Computer Science and Technology and Tsinghua University in 2008 with an MEng in Instrument Science and Technology. In 2013 he received the PhD from Nanyang Technological University, with a thesis on the steerable parametric loudspeaker based on phased array techniques. Following this he carried out his postdoctoral research in Japan and Singapore on active noise control. He became an Associate Professor at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 2017 and joined the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) as a lecturer in the summer of 2023.
