If you choose to study at Winchester School of Art, you’ll work with internationally respected academics and experience world-leading research as it happens, with access to state-of-the-art resources. You will become part of the close-knit Postgraduate Society within your area of study as well as the wider University 5,000-strong postgraduate student community.
Within Winchester School of Art, we have more than 500 postgraduates, most on our unique and broad range of MA programmes in fine art, fashion, textiles, graphic design, advertising design and digital media, as well as some researching art and design to PhD level.
All our postgraduate students have the opportunity to take part in regular research seminars, the PhD student forum, and exhibitions of practice-led research. They also gain experience of presenting research at conferences, within the School itself, as well as participating in inter-university symposia, national and international conferences and exhibitions.
As a member of Winchester School of Art you will have access to excellent workshops, study areas and media facilities, lectures by leading visiting professionals, and contact with senior researchers across the University. Your supervisory team will work with you to identify the research skills you need and you will be able to attend a range of training courses within the School and the Faculty to obtain them. Training sessions cover research project management, preparing for examination and publication, as well as the technical and practical skills appropriate to your project.
Winchester enjoys a friendly, lively and cosmopolitan campus, with an active Students' Union. The School is fully integrated into the academic work and life of the University of Southampton, which offers all the resources you would expect from one of the UK's leading research universities.
Our students can use facilities at the University's Highfield campus, including the Hartley Library, Nuffield Theatre, Students' Union bar, nightclub and restaurants and a state-of-the-art sporting complex.

“The fact that my supervisor is an artist and researcher with years of experience, having dealt with similar questions, has been an important factor.”
