A modern overspill of London centred around an old medieval market town Basingstoke has seen vast developments in recent years to improve its image. Central to the new developments is Festival Place shopping centre with surrounding cinema, restaurants, and cafes. The Haymarket Theatre and Anvil Concert Hall also take position in central Basingstoke with the old medieval town located to the north.
A series of new apartment developments have sprung up in Basingstoke making this a prime location for young professional London commuters. As a result the town is catering for this market with additional sports and recreational facilities. The new leisure park just outside the town centre is the location of an Aquadrome swimming pool, ice rink, bowling alley and the Milestones Museum all providing plenty of opportunities to unwind and relax after a hard day studying.
If you feel you need to get out for a day trip Southampton is just 25 minutes away and central London is 45 minutes both easily accessible on the direct train lines.
