Catering Options
Part-Catered or Self-Catered?
At the University of Southampton we offer either total independence through self-catering accommodation or the more traditional Halls experience through part-catering.
Self-Catered
In self-catered accommodation we provide kitchen facilities shared between you and a number of other residents. Self-catering provides a totally independent experience and may be more suitable if you have specialist dietary requirements.
Shopping for food couldn't be easier. All the Halls are within easy reach of local shops and the Uni-Link connection joins the Halls to the city supermarkets. In addition to this Highfield campus boasts its only vegetable market every Monday during term time and the Union shop provides a range of home and international food products.
You should note however that all cooking utensils, plates, cutlery etc will need to be provided by the student. The kitchens are equipped with microwave, grill, oven, fridge, freezer and your own lockable cupboard. All this creates the perfect environment to test your culinary skills and if you ever get bored of your own cooking you can purchase meals for cash at the Hall restaurants.
Part-Catered
During term time in part-catered accommodation students receive breakfast and a choice of either lunch or evening meal (Monday to Friday) with Brunch on Saturday and Sunday Lunch on Sunday. Meals can even be taken on most teaching sites for convenience.
We offer a wide range of freshly prepared meals from sandwiches and salads to pizzas, traditional roasts and international cuisine. A Vegetarian option is always available and our staff can cater for Halal and most dietary requirements if we are advised in advance.
