All residents within Hall are members of the Junior Common Room, the JCR, and are encouraged to use the facilities offered by the JCR committee. The JCR committee run the social, sporting and student representative sides of life in Hall. They guide new residents through Freshers' week, helping to ensure that they make the most of their new surroundings.
The JCR committees are given money, by the University, to spend on improving the social facilities of Halls and running events through out the year. This means that the JCRs can run spectacular live music nights, discos, all day events and balls with reduced costs to residents.
Many residents like to participate in sport. The JCR Committee sets up the intra-mural teams and can point new residents in the right direction for the University sports teams as well. Most of the JCRs are represented in most of the intramural leagues, however, if there isn't already a team and there is enough interest to set one up then they will be more than happy to do so.
The new committee is elected early in the second semester and it is a great chance for new students to get involved in making sure that the next year's residents are able to enjoy themselves in a way that can only be catered for by a Southampton JCR.
