Students with Additional Requirements
At the University of Southampton we welcome students with disabilities, sensory impairments and health conditions, and we recognise that making sure you have appropriate accommodation is very important. We work in partnership with the University’s Enabling Service, who support and advise students with disabilities and health conditions, to ensure that we are able to provide a room that meets individual student’s needs.
We have a wide range of adapted accommodation in a variety of locations. Our range of accommodation includes rooms with mobility adaptations, and also visual and vibrating fire alarms.
To help us identify the accommodation that is suitable for you, it is important that we have as much information about your health condition as possible. These details should be included on your accommodation application form at the time of submission and will be kept confidential. We can then identify which room and location would be the best option for you, and what adaptations might need to be made to the room.
Please ensure that you complete an accommodation application form by the 1st August in year in which you studies commence. The application form is available online at www.onlineaccommodation.soton.ac.uk and more information is located on the “How to Apply” tab on this website.
There is a space on the application form for you to enter details of your disability or health condition. If you can enter as much information as possible, that will help us to identify an appropriate room for you. We also ask you to send us supporting evidence of your health condition when you submit your application. This information is kept confidentially and would only be shared with other staff with your permission.
There is information about our adapted accommodation on the Disabled.go.com website at the following link http://www.disabledgo.com/en/org/university-of-southampton
This shows several of our rooms, and we do have other rooms available, so please contact us for additional details, assistance and information.
Additional information about the support that can be offered to disabled students can be obtained from the Enabling Service, either by telephone on 023 8059 7726 or by email at enable@soton.ac.uk. You can also find more information on their website, at http://www.soton.ac.uk/edusupport/disability/
