Who we are

Providing a stimulating research environment

Providing a stimulating research environment

From global warming to life-threatening infections, our world-leading research focuses on today’s key challenges. Working in collaboration with different disciplines and with other Universities, private industry and the public sector, we see science as a means to achieve real-life benefits.

A firm foundation of academic excellence enables us to support and inspire the bioscientists of the future. We offer undergraduates a broad-based training with specialist options across the discipline, while postgraduates can take advantage of a supportive and stimulating research environment.

The University’s £50m investment in a new Life Sciences Building illustrates the commitment to learning and innovation in the biological sciences. Moving into the new building in autumn 2010, and academics, researchers and students all benefit from the thriving collaborative environment and cutting-edge facilities that it provides.

Addressing life’s challenges

Research here focuses on three fundamental themes: Cellular and Molecular Biosciences, Ecology and the Environment, and Neurosciences.

Welcoming students from all over the world
