Geography and EnvironmentPostgraduate study

Geography at Southampton is one of Britain's leading centres for geographical research, with excellent facilities, a strong publication record, and a thriving research culture.

The Graduate School currently has around 80 full-time and part-time students from the UK and overseas and is funded by research councils and other sources. The Graduate School captures all that’s good about research: a mixture of stimulating intellectual activity and enjoyable social interaction.

Student and staff research is organised into six research groups. Candidates register initially for a MPhil degree, which then converts to a PhD following a satisfactory upgrade report. Each MPhil and PhD student receives formal research training and detailed tuition tailored to their own needs.
