MUSI1010 Introduction to Performance Studies

This module will teach you how to analyze your own performances and to devise strategies for improving your work. You will practice writing about musical performance (as opposed to musical form or style) and learn about the different styles and registers appropriate to different kinds of performance writing, such as the concert review, programme note, and press release. You will learn about the different contexts for musical performance, considering how different venues, media, genres and styles affect the expectations and evaluation of performance. You will discuss how performance choices relate to current debates about style and taste and how performance styles change over time.
