Dr Adam Pound is Senior Research Fellow within Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

I did my PhD at the University of Guelph under the supervision of Eric Poisson, followed by a postdoctoral position at Guelph and McMaster and an NSERC postdoctoral fellowship here at Southampton. I am now a senior research fellow working with Professor Leor Barack.

Research interests

In the past I have worked on diverse topics including phase transitions in polymers and transport properties in condensed matter. However, my research focus has been on the motion of relatively small objects in strongly curved spacetimes. I am currently working on high-accuracy models of the motion of, and gravitational waves emitted by, a solar-mass neutron star or black hole orbiting a supermassive black hole in a galactic core. These models will be necessary to extract the parameters of such systems from gravitational waveforms detected by the planned gravitational wave detector eLISA.
