About
Professor Yifeng Yang is the Director of the Institute of Cryogenics within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.
Prof Yang has engaged in active research for more than 30 years in the material and enabling sciences of high temperature superconductors, development of HTS in high field magnets and power electrical devices, and novel cryogenic engineering for new application in fundamental sciences. He is an internationally recognised experts in the ac losses and cryogenic stability of HTS materials and devices. As the director of the institute since 2004, he has secured more than £10m funding from UK research councils (EPSRC,STFC, InnovateUK), UK/European industry, EU Framework Programs, ITER, and CERN on a wide range of successful research projects including superconducting generators, 20T+ compact laboratory magnets, HTS conductors for future accelerator magnets and their cold-powering, cryogenic magic-angle-spinning NMR.
He is a member and vice chairman of the International Cryogenic Engineering Committee.
You can update this in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading and then ‘Curriculum and research description’, select ‘Add profile information’. In the dropdown menu, select - ‘About’.
Write about yourself in the third person. Aim for 100 to 150 words covering the main points about who you are and what you currently do. Clear, simple language is best. You can include specialist or technical terms.
You’ll be able to add details about your research, publications, career and academic history to other sections of your staff profile.
